No Credible Threat Found at Mount Si High School Following September 23 Investigation

Following reports of a potential threat at Mount Si High School on September 23, the Snoqualmie Police Department and the Snoqualmie Valley School District investigated and determined no credible evidence of danger.

The investigation revealed that the situation stemmed from a miscommunication unrelated to safety concerns.

Over the past month, threats of violence on school campuses have been a recurring issue across the state and the country. In this case, after receiving student reports, the school administration and police conducted a thorough investigation.

According to Conor Laffey, the Snoqualmie Valley School District’s Chief Communications Officer, the administration reviewed all the details, including interviews with those involved, and confirmed that no credible threat existed.

The concern originated from a misunderstanding between individuals, with no indication of intent to harm the school or students.

Laffey emphasized that the investigation was a joint effort between the school district and law enforcement, ensuring that every detail was examined thoroughly. Both parties are committed to maintaining regular communication to address any potential concerns in the future.

In a YouTube video, Snoqualmie Police Chief Lynch echoed this commitment to safety, noting that increased police patrols will continue at Mount Si High School as a precaution until the School Resource Officer (SRO) position is filled, either through a new hire or by the return of Officer Gutwein after the first of the year.

Although no applications for the position have been received so far, the police department remains focused on providing a visible security presence at the school.

Both Laffey and Lynch underscored the importance of community collaboration in reporting potential threats. Lynch emphasized that immediately sharing concerns with law enforcement or school staff, rather than friends, is crucial, as it helps prevent unnecessary delays or the spread of embellished information.

Mount Si High School Principal Deb Hay reassured families that student safety remains the district’s top priority. In her message, she encouraged students to report concerns to trusted adults and reminded families that they can use the district’s Vector Alert system to anonymously report safety issues 24 hours a day.

Hay also highlighted the importance of staying informed through the ParentSquare App and the district website for updates on emergency procedures.

By working together, school officials, law enforcement, and the community are committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all Mount Si High School students.
