New Vision for Downtown North Bend Property Gains Community Support

The City of North Bend is moving closer to revitalizing the property at 302 W North Bend Way, thanks to feedback from local residents.

Situated at the corner of North Bend Way and Sydney Avenue, the 1,400-square-foot building, previously a gas station and convenience store, now sits vacant on a lot potentially impacted by past environmental contamination.

As a prominent site within the downtown corridor and close to a critical gateway to the city, this property has been identified as a prime location for redevelopment to meet various community needs.

To gather input, the City launched a community survey from July 19 to August 9, 2024, and received an overwhelming 746 responses.

Mayor Miller commented, “This property has the potential to serve our community in a whole new way. Thanks to engaged citizens, we are that much closer to identifying a shared vision for 302 W North Bend Way.”

Survey respondents shared a range of ideas for transforming the space, with popular suggestions including:

  • Incorporating a food bank and affordable housing options
  • Focusing on mixed-use or commercial development
  • Ensuring building design reflects the town’s mountain character
  • Adding public amenities

The survey results will help guide redevelopment efforts, ensuring the property becomes an asset for the community. View a presentation on survey responses HERE.

The next steps include working with the Washington State Department of Ecology to assess the site’s cleanup needs, paving the way for a transformation that aligns with the City’s sustainable urbanism and environmental stewardship goals.
