Hunger in the Snoqualmie Valley is real. The Empty Bowls event is simple way of raising awareness.
After much success the first time around, the Mt. Si Food Bank and local organizers, volunteers and restaurants decided to continue the popular Empty Bowls Fundraiser to support local families in need.
For 35 years, the Mt. Si Food Bank has helped Snoqualmie Valley families in need. In 1975 the food bank fed about 50 local residents. Today that number has risen to approximately 1,200 – or over 400 families.
This Sunday, February 10th, from 4:30-6:30PM in the Mount Si High School Commons, community members are again invited to share a simple meal of soup and bread – and are then invited to take the bowl (made by local students) home as a reminder of all the empty bowls and hunger in the world. The meal is reminiscent of what you might be served in a soup line.
Tickets to fundraiser are $20 and can be purchased on the Mt. Si Food Bank website. The meal is accompanied by a silent auction, filled with items donated by local stores and restaurants. You can click here for a complete list of auction items.
Last year, Empty Bowls raised about $7000 for the Mt. Si Food Bank – quite amazing for an inaugural event.
