Mount Si Swim and Dive Makes History, Heads to State

The Mount Si Boys Swim & Dive team is heading into the Washington State Championships on the heels of one of the best seasons in program history.

The Wildcats finished the regular season 7–0, the first undefeated regular season the program has ever had, before advancing through districts to compete at the state championships this weekend, February 20–21, at the King County Aquatic Center.

Griffin Guinn has been at the center of much of the excitement. For the third consecutive year, he has qualified for the 4A District Championships in both swimming and diving, making him the first and only Wildcat ever to qualify in both disciplines.

This season, Guinn broke the school record in the 100-yard backstroke and helped set a new record as part of the 200- meter relay team, while already locking in a state-qualifying time in swimming.

Guinn’s dive training this year was made possible through a unique arrangement. With Mount Si without a dive coach this season, the Issaquah School District stepped up and opened their program to Guinn and teammate Crew Stevens, who have been training under Dive Coach Alyssa Foster.

The Wildcats sent a strong contingent to the 4A District Championships, including Isaac Chau, Drew Mackenzie, Griffin Guinn, Vlad Oborin, Hunter Sternberg, Carter Pass, Logan Stevens, Hudson Estes, Crew Stevens, Wiktor Schabowski, and Hudson Estes.

The following athletes will compete at the Washington State Championships this weekend:

  • Isaac Chau: 200 Freestyle, 100 Butterfly, 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay
  • Drew Mackenzie: 50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay
  • Hunter Sternberg: 500 Freestyle, 200 Medley Relay
  • Griffin Guinn: 100 Freestyle, 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay
  • Vlad Oborin: 200 Medley Relay, 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay
  • Hudson Estes: 200 Medley Relay
  • Logan Stevens: 200 Medley Relay

Event starts at 9:00AM 2/20-2/21 tickets can be purchased here: https://gofan.co/event/5677979

The team is coached by Jessica Proctor and assistant swim coach Josephine Piel, with Alyssa Foster of the Issaquah School District serving as dive coach.

For a program celebrating its first-ever undefeated regular season, the Wildcats are carrying that momentum straight to state. They’re showing what’s possible when a team raises the bar. The whole community will be watching.
