It was an exciting weekend for the Mount Si High School gymnasts, as the team headed to the WIAA State Championships at the Tacoma Dome on February 15th and 16th. After Friday’s team competition, Mount Si turned in its best overall state result, placing 3rd in the 2A/3A division.
Enumclaw High School finished first with 181.05 points overall and Kamiakin High School from Kennewick finished in second place with 179.6 points. Mount Si scored an impressive 169.125 points.
Teri Rogers, mother of Mount Si gymnast Jenn Rogers, said it was so exciting because Mount Si has never before finished that high in a state competition. She added, “The team has depth and it was a group effort to do that well.”
Two Mount Si gymnasts also moved on to Saturday’s individual event state finals. Hannah Richmond finished in a three-way tie for 11th place on the bars. On the balance beam, Jenn Rogers finished in a tie for 10th place and then topped that by tying for 7th place with her floor routine.
Congratulations Mount Si gymnastics!! For full results see the WIAA state competition website.
