Mount Si Cheer nails it at National Championships: wins bronze medal and places 2nd in World Competition

Over the weekend, Mount Si High School Cheer had its best result ever at the Universal Cheerleading Association’s (UCA) National High School Cheerleading Championships on Orlando, Florida.

Because it placed 8th last year, the 22-member Mount Si team also qualified to participate in this year’s World Championships, which happened at the same Walt Disney World venue – ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex – on February 10th & 11th.

Out of 800+ teams and 16,000 cheerleaders, Mount Si finished the weekend by placing 2nd at the Worlds Competition and 3rd at the National competition in the Super Varsity Non-Tumbling Division.

In the National Competition, two other Washington State teams – Hanford and Eastside Catholic – joined Mount Si in the finals where the top seven teams vied for a medal. Hanford edged out Mount Si for second and Eastside Catholic finished in 5th. The bronze medal finish also qualifies Mount Si for next year’s World Competition.

In the World Competition, Mount Si competed against the top 10 teams from around the world who qualified at their National Championships last year, in addition to other teams from the U.S. and Canada.

Mount Si earned their bid to 2018 National Championship by earning a qualifying score at competitions during their 2017-18 season.

Congratulations Mount Si Cheer and coaches Jessii Stevens, Robby Sotore and Janice Wintermyer. The 9 months of hard work seem to have paid off.
