Mount Si Cheer clinches World Title

Mount Si Cheer returned to Orlando, Florida over the weekend to defend last year’s National Game Day Title at the UCA National High School Championships.

Friday, February 7th was the Game Day division competition, which featured 46 teams from around the country. After a great performance in the preliminaries, Mount Si found itself in the top spot, securing a bye and moving straight to the finals.

According to parent Kim Arelllano, due to an unforeseen computer glitch, the finals were delayed two hours late into the night. Mount Si gave a great performance and earned the silver medal – edged out for their second straight title by just .1 point.

After a short night of sleep the team was back on the mats Saturday for the Traditional division competition – once again nailing their routine and moving straight into the finals. Unfortunately they had a couple of falls, but still finished in 5th place.

But the competition wasn’t over. Mount Si – as a returning championship team – competed in the World Championships on Sunday, February 9th where they nailed the routine and won the World Title in the Super Large Non Tumbling competition.

The team also earned the High Point Award during Sunday’s world competition, given to the team earning the most points in All Non Tumbling Traditional divisions.

All team members had a family member who traveled to watch the competition – and we are told they represented ‘loud and proud.’

As the National Championships were the same weekend as the Washington State Cheer Championships, MSHS Red and Game Day teams could not make the state competition, but the MSHS Silver team did compete and finished 4th for its Game Day Routine.

Congratulations, Mount Si Cheer and coaches Robby Sotore, Jessii Stevens and Victoria Kirk!
