According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), on August 21st, 2023, at 437 am, a Honda Civic driven by a 36-year-old male from Puyallup was traveling eastbound on SR18 just west of I90 when it attempted to pass a semi.
The Honda crossed the double yellow into oncoming traffic, striking a 2000 Ford 350 pickup that was traveling westbound. The Honda then lost control and struck two more vehicles; a truck with a trailer towing a boat and a Volkswagen Jetta.
All vehicles came to rest, blocking both directions of SR18. The Honda, boat trailer and Jetta were all totaled. The causing vehicle’s driver was transported to Overlake Hospital with injuries. All drivers and passengers were wearing seatbelts.
Drugs and alcohol were not involved. The cause was stated as unsafe passing. The roadway was closed for 3 hours and 18 minutes.
