According to the King County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO), its Guardian 2 helicopter responded Friday afternoon, September 30, 2016 to the Goldmyer Hot Springs area east of North Bend after a miner seriously injured his leg with dynamite.
KCSO received the call shortly before 2PM from people who were with the injured 44-year old man. Due to the remote location – about 2 miles up trail from Goldmyer Hot Springs – aid crews could not access the man without a long hike.
KCSO Sgt Cindi West said Guardian 2 airlifted the man out of the area after emergency agencies via phone helped the man’s friends stabilize him at the scene.
He was transported by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center around 4:15PM. Sgt. West said the man’s leg was badly injured by the explosive, but that he probably would not lose it.
According to KCSAR Public Information Officer Alan LaBissoniere, the area near Goldmyer Hot Springs is home to some large [private] mines.
