On Friday, November 1, 2024, from 3 to 5 p.m., Snoqualmie Trading Co. will host a special book signing with local author, motivational speaker, and adventurer Brian Dickinson.
A resident of Snoqualmie, Dickinson, will be signing copies of his latest book, Calm in the Chaos: True Tales from Elite U.S. Navy Aviation Rescue Swimmers.
This free event allows attendees to meet Dickinson, ask questions, and explore how his life lessons—from rescue missions to personal challenges—can inspire others. Copies of Calm in the Chaos will be available for purchase on-site.
Lessons from a Life of Rescue and Adventure
In Calm in the Chaos, Dickinson reflects on his six years as a U.S. Navy Aviation Rescue Swimmer and how the skills he developed continue to shape his life beyond the military. He discusses how principles from rescue missions—like staying calm under pressure—apply to everyday challenges, including business, health, and relationships.
During his military service, Dickinson completed two tours in the Persian Gulf, specializing in combat search and rescue, anti-submarine warfare, and aerial gunnery. Now living in Snoqualmie, he shares these experiences to help others navigate their own challenges.
Everest Descent: Blind, Alone, and Unstoppable
Dickinson’s most well-known achievement occurred in 2011 when he summited Mount Everest solo after his Sherpa fell ill at a high altitude. During his descent, Dickinson was struck by sudden snow blindness. With no vision and low oxygen, he used his survival training and faith to make a dangerous seven-hour descent back to safety.
This extraordinary feat is chronicled in his earlier book, Blind Descent: Surviving Alone and Blind on Mount Everest. His story has been featured on CNN, ABC’s Good Morning America, and the Weather Channel, inspiring audiences worldwide.
