On Friday, May 19, 2017, Planning Commission Member Matt Laase announced his candidacy for Snoqualmie City Council 
Position 5. He will face Terry Sorenson for the seat being vacated by Heather Munden.
Laase is a native Washingtonian and a 17-year resident of Snoqualmie. Having raised his family in the Snoqualmie Valley, he says he is a strong believer in community values and in the city’s potential.
Laase stated that he looks forward to sharing his perspective of what Snoqualmie can become, as a unified city with a strong vision supported by sound social and financial decisions, in partnership with active community engagement – not opposition to it.
He commented via press release:
“I chose to run for City Council after observing that complicated issues before both the Planning Commission and City Council were not being addressed fully with the community. We all understand and appreciate the challenging decisions our local government faces every day. Being cognizant of the day-to-day impacts, as well as what the future may bring, is not a luxury but a duty our elected officials must consider. I believe that an open and transparent process is the only way we as citizens can understand where our money and energies are best utilized.”
As a City Councilman, Laase said he would advocate on the community’s behalf to ensure that every decision is a transparent one and is in its best interest.
Laase has served on the Planning Commission for 2-1/2 years and is currently the Vice-Chair. He also has been an independent Snoqualmie business owner and volunteer.
