“Marcie’s” Comes Home: North Bend Theatre to Host Special Screening and Filmmaker Q&A

The North Bend Theatre welcomes local film lovers for a special screening of Marcie’s Sunday, April 27th at 3:00 p.m., followed by a talkback with director John Helde and select cast members.

Marcie’s is the latest heartfelt comedy-drama from Seattle-based filmmaker Helde, known for his character-driven work rooted in real-life relationships and places. The story centers on small-town bartender Marcie, whose dream of buying the tavern where she works is jeopardized by a developer eager to claim the surrounding wooded land. With the help of her tight-knit community—and a surprise assist from an endangered bird—Marcie fights to preserve the place and people she holds dear.

Filmed at recognizable Washington State locations, including North Bend’s own Mt. Si Tavern and Seattle’s Waterwheel Lounge, Marcie’s has deep ties to the region. The closure of the Waterwheel, a real-world event, echoes the film’s themes of gentrification, resilience, and the significance of third places in our communities.

The film features a standout ensemble cast packed with Washington talent: Jenn Ruzumna, Reginald André Jackson, Miski Farah Ali, Ryan Sanders, Alycia Delmore, Isis King, Aaron Blakely, and others. Like his previous films, Phoebe’s Father and Brown’s Canyon, Helde used an improvisational process with the cast to shape the film’s authentic and often humorous dialogue.
