Internet Safety Forum at Mount Si HS; Police will Update Inappropriate Photo Sharing Investigation

Teens and smartphones. Smartphones and teens. These days, the two go hand-in-hand. Most teens are rarely without their phones and access to Texting, Twitter, Instagram, Snap Chat, Facebook… etc, etc.  It’s a tough world for  busy parents to navigate and monitor.safety forum

So… are you worried about your child’s safety on the internet or concerned about keeping tabs and making sure social media time is safe and appropriate?

Then Mount Si has something to help parents (and students) navigate the ever-changing internet and instant world of social media.

On Tuesday, March 10, 2015, from 6PM-8PM,  Mount Si High School will host an important Internet Safety Forum for Snoqualmie Valley parents and students.

A panel of local and regional experts will be on hand to offer valuable advice on how to protect teens form cyberbullying, internet predators – as well as the risks associated with social networks and teenagers.

The Snoqualmie Police will also offer an update on their investigation into the sharing of inappropriate photos on social media; an incident that occurred in mid-February and led to the arrest of a student.

Mo Lewis from the King County Sexual Assault Resource Center will discuss how their services work, what they are types of incidents they are seeing and resources available to local families.

Kim Estes from Savvy Parents will  lead a discussion on how to be a savvy parent in an online teen world and Mount Si administrators will discuss their efforts to support and help students when it comes to being safe on the internet.

In addition to the investigation update, Snoqualmie Police will also share laws, infractions and repercussions of sexting and cyberbullying. They will also discuss what they are seeing in the Snoqualmie Valley community regarding these issues.

The panel discussion and Q&A, Internet Safety Forum, happens Tuesday, March 10th from 6PM – 8PM in the Mount Si High School Auditorium.
