It was big news last spring when the Snoqualmie Valley Chamber of Commerce announced it was working with the City of Snoqualmie to bring an outdoor, holiday ice rink to downtown Snoqualmie.
That plan, though, hit a bump in the road when it was determined the logistics and costs to power the ice rink were just too much to make it happen for winter 2014.
But the Chamber of Commerce got creative, and after a unanimous approval from the Snoqualmie City Council this week, they announced a different type of rink will be coming to Snoqualmie from December 14th – January 1st. The rink will rotate between two Snoqualmie locations during its two week inaugural run.
Kids of all ages can enjoy the outdoors this December while skating on an Olympic-grade, synthetic ice rink. The ice rink will first be located in the historic district, December 14-22, 2014, and will kickoff with a “Winter Magic” celebration, complete with an Ice Queen and Ice Princess, horse drawn carriage rides, the popular Santa Train and of course, ice skating.
December 23rd-January 1st, the portable ice rink will move to Snoqualmie Ridge during winter break. The Chamber will offer Christmas Eve and Christmas Day open skating, along with New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day skating.
The price at both locations will be $10 for adults and kids 11 and older (skate rental included) and $5 for children 3-10. [Concessions will be made for underprivileged families so that no child misses out on the skating experience.]
In addition to driving regional tourism, this event provides a community meeting place. “Our goal is to provide our community with lasting memories and create a space that our residents and merchants will want to repeat in 2015. Part of our mission is to bring the community together, this event definitely fulfills that mission,” said Lizzy Billington, CEO of The Snoqualmie Valley Chamber of Commerce.
