While these bridge repairs are taking place outside the Snoqualmie Valley in Issaquah, local commuters traveling on I-90 should be aware that the weekend lane reductions on westbound I-90 will likely impact their travel plans.
Westbound Interstate 90 will be reduced to a single lane 24 hours a day, Sept. 5-7 in Issaquah to repair three bridges. This is the first of a series of weekend lane closures along the freeway.
From 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, to 8 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will close up to the left three lanes of westbound I-90 from east of the Front Street North off-ramp to west of Issaquah Creek (mileposts 18 to 16), leaving one open lane for through traffic.
More work is scheduled from 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, to 8 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 14. Crews will close up to three right lanes of westbound I-90 from east of the Front Street North off-ramp to west of Issaquah Creek. The westbound I-90 off-ramp to Front Street will also close during this second weekend lane reduction.
People traveling through the area during the around-the-clock lane reductions should expect significant delays during busy travel times and consider alternate routes. The work needs dry weather and may need to be rescheduled.
Additional daytime single-lane reductions on eastbound and westbound I-90 should be expected on Saturday, Sept. 6, east of Issaquah.
Bridge repairs continue Sept. 12-14
During the Sept. 5-7 lane reduction, crews will replace aging pavement and waterproof membranes and repair bridge expansion joints on the left half of three bridges over Front Street North, Fourth Avenue Northwest/East Lake Sammamish Trail and Issaquah Creek. The right half of the bridges will receive repairs Sept. 12-14.
Crews are tentatively scheduled to reduce westbound I-90 to a single lane the final two weekends of September to make similar repairs on two other bridges in Issaquah. The work will extend the useful life of the bridges, which were originally built in 1970 and 1971.
The bridge work is part of a project already making pavement repairs along westbound I-90 in Issaquah.
More weekend lane reductions in eastern King County
People traveling through eastern King County also should be aware of the following weekend lane reductions:
- Bridge maintenance crews will close one lane of I-90 in Preston between High Point and Southeast 82nd Street (mileposts 22 to 20) for inspections from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6. Crews will work along both directions of I-90 and close right and left lanes, but they will only work in one lane at time.
