Honoring Juneteenth: A Day of Reflection and Freedom

Juneteenth, observed on June 19, commemorates the day in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and informed the last remaining enslaved people that they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

Now recognized as a federal holiday, Juneteenth is a time to honor Black freedom, celebrate resilience, and reflect on the ongoing pursuit of equity and justice across the nation, as well as here in the Snoqualmie Valley.
