Help Chickadee Bakeshop Rise Again: Community Support Needed After 2024 Fire

On April 14, 2024, a fire destroyed a commercial building in downtown Snoqualmie, displacing several small businesses, including Chickadee Bakeshop, Littlest Wishes photo studio, and Snoqualmie Ice Cream. Snoqualmie Police Officer Corey Hendricks reported the fire during his early morning patrol, leaving the building a total loss.

Almost a year later, Chickadee Bakeshop & Snoqualmie Pie Co. is still working to rebuild—and they need the help of a community that’s been part of their story from the beginning.

“What was once a warm and welcoming space, filled with the aroma of freshly baked treats, is now nothing but ashes and memories,” say owners Katie and Dorie.

Their journey to opening has already been filled with obstacles. After securing the lease in the former Café Minee space, they poured time and resources into completing the buildout. “We want to take a moment to recognize and express our deepest gratitude to the amazing construction vendors and suppliers who helped bring our vision to life.” However, delays and rising costs forced them to reallocate funds originally intended for baking equipment.

“We poured everything we had into bringing Chickadee to life,” they said.

The fire destroyed the kitchen, equipment, and supplies they had prepared for incoming orders. While their insurance coverage helped, it hasn’t been enough to cover the full rebuilding costs in today’s economic climate. With help from SpotFund, they hope to cover the remaining equipment needs and replenish ingredient supplies so they can start baking again.

“Every single contribution, no matter the amount, brings us closer to the day we can welcome you back into our bakery with the warm scent of fresh pies and pastries filling the air.”

They remain rooted in the values that shaped the business from the start: “Chickadee Bakeshop & Snoqualmie Pie Co. is more than just a business—it’s a dream built on love, resilience, and community. And right now, we need our community more than ever.”

Sno Valley Pet Services Co-founder Susan Burk says, “If anyone deserves the community’s support, it’s Dorie and Katie. I don’t think many people know just how much they contribute. Dorie ran the pet food bank for 9 years before partnering with me to start Sno Valley Pet Services. She’s also the President of the Downtown Snoqualmie Merchant’s Association. Katie is on the Sno Valley Chamber Economic Development Committee, as well as the board for the North Bend Downtown Foundation. Both Dorie and Katie are involved in supporting The Real Twin Peaks, Festival at Mt Si, Snoqualmie Days Festival, there are probably more I don’t remember. They are at the heart of what happens in the Snoqualmie Valley, and it would be devastating for them to lose their business. Plus, the pie is pretty damn good.

Their motto still stands: Eat Pie and Be Kind.

“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of our journey. We can’t wait to bake for you again soon.”
