Headlining this weekend: Mount Si Drama presents Shakespeare’s ‘As you Like it’

All the world is a stage.  For many of the students of the Mount Si Drama Club, no words could better describe their feelings right now.

Thursday night, May 11th, the curtain opens for the Mount Si High School production of William Shakespeare’s comedy, As You Like It,  which follows its heroine Rosalind as she flees persecution in her uncle’s court, accompanied by her cousin Celia, to find safety – and eventually love – in the Forest of Arden.

In the forest, they encounter a variety of memorable characters, notably the melancholy traveler Jaques who speaks many of Shakespeare’s most famous speeches (such as All the world’s a stage, too much of a good thing and A fool! A fool! I met a fool in the forest). Jaques provides a sharp contrast to the other characters , always observing and disputing the hardships of life in the country.

This is also the directorial debut for Mount Si alumni, Taylor Dean Westerlund, a recent graduate of Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle.  Mr. Westerlund worked with the students as an associate director earlier in the season for the musical, Pippin, and has since become the students’ director, mentor and teacher.  He has brought guidance in many theatre arts skills such as theatre combat, improvisational exercises and an enthusiasm for the writings of William Shakespeare.

The show runs Thursday, Friday and Saturday (May 11th-13th) at 7PM, with a Saturday Matinee at 2pm.  Tickets are $10 and available at the Mount Si Auditorium door an hour before each show.  (Cash/checks only)

The public is invited and encouraged to attend and support these very talented, hard-working students.
