Girl Scout Troop 42805 Creates Pet Adoption Kits for Local Animal Rescue

A local Girl Scout troop is making a big difference for adopted pets. Troop 42805 came together to assemble pet adoption kits, which they then donated to Sno Valley Pet Services, a nonprofit animal rescue and support organization.

The kits, thoughtfully put together by the scouts, include essentials like cozy blankets, toys, treats and more, things that will make a newly adopted pet feel at home.

Troop leader Larissa Kirkwood explained that each year, the girls set their budget goals for the funds they raise by selling cookies. This includes a philanthropic goal, which allows the girls to earn their Bronze Award.

The troop decided they wanted to help an animal rescue in the Snoqualmie Valley by creating animal adoption kits. The girls dove into their research and took a tour at Pet Place Market to explore the products that animal owners would need to take care of dogs and cats. Then the girls got to work. They sold over 5,000 boxes of cookies and purchased supplies to create 13 kits for cats and 13 kits for dogs (one of each kit per Girl Scout). Additionally, they handcrafted pet supplies to add, including cardboard cat scratchers made from cookie boxes and braided dog toys.

Susan Burk, president of Sno Valley Pet Services, was touched by the incredible act of kindness. “We were honored and grateful to be chosen by Troop 42805 to receive the adoption kits they created and look forward to putting them to good use. All supporters are appreciated, but there’s something special about kids working together to do good in their community.”

For the Girl Scouts, it was a lesson in teamwork and compassion. Troop leader Larissa Kirkwood had this to say: “I am so proud of this group of ambitious and thoughtful girls. They truly live the Girl Scout motto to ‘make the world a better place,’ and I’m excited to see what they will achieve in their middle school years and beyond.”
