Get Ready to Giggle: Seattle International Comedy Competition at the North Bend Theatre

This Saturday, November 8th, the North Bend Theatre launches a thousand laughs as it hosts the first of two rounds of North America’s biggest touring comedy festival: the Seattle International Comedy Competition (SICC).

That’s right. SICC is back, and it’s bringing the best comics from the US, Canada, and Taiwan to battle it out for your belly laughs.

Sixteen comics will take the stage on Saturday night, all with one mission: to make you laugh. And the more you laugh, the better their chances of winning!

At past competitions, audiences have been known to shout, “Ow! Stop! Stop! It hurts to laugh,” which incidentally is the unofficial scoring system

Beth Burrows, owner of the North Bend Theatre and local laughter enthusiast, is thrilled to welcome the festival back to the Snoqualmie Valley for its sixth year. “These comedy competitions are incredibly fun,” she says. “The comedians win by making you laugh, and they are relentless in their pursuit of victory. There is no defense. Botox won’t help. You’ll still leave with laugh lines.”

Meet the comics

  • One comic is a cornhole monster and not embarrassed to brag about it.
  • One’s a roller-skating newcomer who’s somehow bonded with Seattle’s crow population. We don’t understand it, but we respect it.
  • One comic, when asked to describe herself, paused thoughtfully before declaring: “strikingly beautiful.”
  • Per ancient comedy tradition, one comic is legally required to be from Brooklyn. You get to guess which one. Fuggetaboudit!.
  • And our New Orleans comic? Survived Katrina. Still waiting on FEMA, but the jokes will arrive on time.

Come for the competition, stay for the comedy and possibly crows. See you Saturday. Tickets available at northbendtheatre.com
