Garbage & Recycling Collections Canceled January 13th, Drop-Off Site Available at Torguson Park

Republic Services has informed the City of North Bend that it will not be able to service customers on Thursday, January 13, 2022, due to an ongoing, temporary work stoppage/strike led by out-of-state union members.

The City and Republic’s goal is to ensure that customers missed this week receive solid waste collection as soon as possible. Until those pick-ups can resume, the City has coordinated with Republic to provide collection containers at Torguson Park for customers to drop bagged garbage.

Dumpsters will be available at Torguson Park, 750 E. North Bend Way, from approximately 9 AM to 4:30 PM, Thursday, January 13, 2022. This will be a staffed event, with Republic Services employees on-site to assist in unloading customers’ vehicles.  Please wear masks when exiting vehicles to protect the health of Republic Services employees.

This drop-off location is for bagged residential household garbage only; no oversized items are allowed. Customers who cannot make the drop-off event may put out extra materials on their next scheduled collection day at no charge.

City staff will provide traffic control in the park today to prevent vehicles from backing up onto North Bend Way and will be closing the park entry at 4:30 PM when the drop-off event closes.

The City is asking neighbors to help neighbors until normal collections resume. Please check in with the elderly, disabled or those who simply just cannot access the City drop-off site and if possible, assist in transporting materials to the event.

As a community service for those who cannot access today’s event (e.g., elderly, disabled, or in Covid isolation) and do not have friends/neighbors to transport materials to the drop-off location, the City’s Public Works Dept. will come to private residences located in the City limits to collect bagged garbage. No oversized items are allowed – only bagged household trash, please.

If you live within the North Bend City limits, cannot access today’s event (due to the above-listed reasons) and your neighbors cannot help deliver bagged trash for you, please call or text your address to 425.736.1433 by 3:30 PM. Although the City is pleased to provide this community service, we have limited staffing. As such, this collection service is limited to City residents who are elderly, disabled or in Covid isolation.

City staff will also be in discussions today with Republic Services to determine if another drop-off event is needed in the coming days.

Thank you for your patience during this unexpected service disruption. With weeks of missed collections caused by recent snowstorms, we know this latest service cancellation has caused a hardship for many North Bend residents.

The City will provide ongoing updates as more information becomes available from Republic Services.

Please visit the North Bend Republic Services website for additional info at www.republicservices.com/municipality/north-bend-wa. Republic Services can also be contacted at 206-682-9730 for residential customer service and 206-682-3037 for commercial customer service.
