Updated: Free Storm Yard Waste Disposal at Select King County Transfer Stations

Update: They’ve paused free yard debris drop-off at KC transfer stations due to a lack of capacity at King County transfer stations.

King County is planning to reassess the need for additional free debris clean-up over the next week and will provide an update on the website.

Original Story

King County Executive Dow Constantine has announced that residents can dispose of branches, tree limbs, and other woody yard debris from this week’s windstorm free of charge at select King County Recycling and Transfer Stations.

Starting Saturday, Nov. 23, King County residents may drop off tree limbs and wood debris without paying the usual yard waste fee at the following facilities: Bow Lake, Cedar Falls, Enumclaw, Factoria, Shoreline, and Vashon.

The free disposal service applies only to storm-related wood debris, including stumps, logs, and limbs no longer than six feet. Grass clippings, sod, and soil will not be accepted.

This service is available to all King County residents within the county’s 37-city and unincorporated service area. Visitors to transfer stations are reminded to secure their loads for transport.

Facilities not offering yard waste recycling — Algona, Houghton, and Renton — will charge the standard garbage rate of $33 for up to 320 pounds or $198 per ton for storm debris.
