Four Injured in I-90 Head-On Crash Near North Bend, Investigation Underway

Four people were taken to area hospitals Friday morning after a serious head-on collision on Interstate 90 near milepost 31. The crash occurred shortly before 10 a.m. and shut down the eastbound lanes for an hour and 33 minutes while crews responded.

According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), a 1999 Toyota 4Runner and a 2013 Lexus RX were traveling westbound when the collision sequence began. Troopers say the 4Runner attempted to pass the Lexus. The Lexus did not slow down, overcorrected, and crossed all westbound lanes into oncoming traffic. A 2016 Ram 1500 traveling eastbound struck the Lexus head-on.

After the crash, the 4Runner continued westbound and left the scene. Troopers later identified the driver as a man in his early sixties from Kennewick. He was not injured, and charges are pending.

An eighty-year-old man from Cle Elum was driving the Lexus. He and his seventy-five-year-old passenger were transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. In the Ram, a thirty-five-year-old man from Bothell and a thirty-four-year-old woman from Seattle were taken to Overlake Medical Center.

WSP reported that all four injured individuals had been wearing seatbelts. Both the Lexus and Ram were totaled and towed from the scene. The 4Runner was listed as non-reportable damage.

No evidence of drugs or alcohol was found. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and the Washington State Patrol is determining potential charges.

The highway fully reopened after crews cleared debris and investigators documented the scene.

According to Trooper Rick Johnson, WSP investigators are asking anyone who has dashcam video traveling westbound on I-90 in this area at the time of this collision to please contact the State Patrol. You can also send the video to Trooper Dennis at Stephen.Dennis@wsp.wa.gov.
