Dry and Getting Drier | Fire Crews Respond to Large Brush Fire on I-90 near Preston

Local firefighters responded to a large brush fire along the side of westbound I-90 near Preston (milepost 22) Friday, July 31, 2015 around 12PM.

Crews had the fire under control quickly, without it spreading up the hillside, but as of 12:45PM one lane of westbound I-90 near exit 22 was closed as firefighters worked to mop up the brush fire.

According to WSDOT, the lane closure was causing a one-mile backup on westbound I-90. At 12:30PM, Eastside Firefighters stated via their Twitter feed that crews would be “on-scene for sometime overhauling the fire.”  They also asked drivers to slow down in the area so crews could safely do their work.

There was no statement as to a cause of the fire.  The record-setting hot temperatures, along with little rainfall, continue to plague Western Washington. The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for the area until Sunday, August 2, 2015 at 8PM, with temperatures expected to hover in the mid 90’s all weekend.
