Fatal Collision on SR 203 Claims Life of North Bend Motorcyclist

A fatal traffic collision occurred on SR 203 near Carnation on Northeast 11th Street on Monday, August 26th, 2024, resulting in the death of one motorcyclist and the injury of his rider.

At approximately 1:22 PM, a 2022 BMW R1250RT motorcycle, operated by a 55-year-old man from North Bend, was traveling southbound in the northbound lane of SR 203.

The motorcycle collided with a 2003 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by a 62-year-old Snohomish man as the truck made a left turn. The impact caused both riders on the motorcycle to be ejected, landing in a nearby ditch.

Tragically, the male motorcycle driver was pronounced dead at the scene despite wearing a USDOT-approved helmet. His 17-year-old female passenger, also from North Bend, was injured and transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.

The Washington State Patrol indicated that speed and improper passing were the primary factors contributing to the accident. The crash blocked both lanes of SR 203 for over three hours, causing significant traffic delays.

Authorities confirmed that no drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident.

The investigation is ongoing, and next of kin has been notified.
