The Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust is offering a series of free guided hiking events in July. These events are designed to help participants connect with nature and learn about local ecosystems, history, and conservation efforts.

These hikes are perfect for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and fitness levels, providing a unique opportunity to explore some of Washington’s most beautiful landscapes.

Rock in the Lifecycle – Teanaway Community Forest

  • Location: Teanaway Community Forest 
  • Speakers: Karl Lillquist (CWU) and Joe Hoagland (DNR) 

Join Karl Lillquist and Joe Hoagland for a hike to Cheese Rock. Learn about the formation and history of the sandstone and discover how the forest has evolved over time.

The hike is short but steep, so bring comfortable shoes, water, and weather-appropriate clothing. Directions from I-90 in Cle Elum: Take exit 85, follow WA-10/WA-970, then turn onto Teanaway Rd.

Busy Beavers Guided Hike with Beavers Northwest

  • Date & Time: Thursday, July 18, 2024 | 7 PM – 9 PM 
  • Location: Lake Sammamish State Park (Issaquah area) 

Discover the fascinating world of beavers with experts from Beavers Northwest on a sunset tour of Tibbets Creek. Learn about beaver habitats, local restoration efforts, and how to coexist with these industrious animals.

The hike is 1 mile roundtrip with no elevation gain. Bring sturdy shoes, water, snacks, and optional items like a headlamp and binoculars. Meet at the Tibbets Beach Parking lot.

Trail Talk: Managing Recreation Impacts in a Booming Metro Area

  • Location: Camp Brown (North Bend area) 

Explore the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River Valley with Mount Baker Snoqualmie National Forest staff and Tor Bell from the Greenway Trust. Learn about the challenges of managing public lands and recreation trails in a popular area.

This gentle half-mile loop trail offers beautiful views and valuable insights into recreation management.

Middle Fork Snoqualmie History Hike

  • Date & Time: Friday, July 26, 2024, | 9 AM – 1 PM 
  • Location: Garfield Ledges (North Bend area) 

Join Joe Olbrych, Monty Vanderbilt, and Mike Stenger on a history hike through the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River Valley. Learn about the valley’s transformation over the past century, from logging and mining to recent conservation efforts. The hike includes stops with historic photos and maps.
