At approximately 12:20 p.m. yesterday, June 19, 2025, Washington State Patrol (WSP) communications began receiving 9-1-1 calls reporting a serious car-pedestrian collision on westbound I-90 between SR 18 and the Preston exit.
Additional calls were received reporting that the vehicle that struck the pedestrian was a black Toyota Sequoia, which fled the scene and ended up disabled prior to the exit to Preston, where the driver was ultimately taken into custody after an attempted carjacking and altercation with troopers.
Once troopers and detectives arrived, they were able to determine that the pedestrian was associated with a red vehicle that was disabled on the right shoulder in the area of the collision. The pedestrian crossed the freeway and was struck by the suspect vehicle that was driving on the left shoulder, and unfortunately, the pedestrian did not survive.
WSP detectives are seeking witnesses to the collision and any videos that show the collision or the black Sequoia before the collision. Please email Detective Early at Todd.Eary@wsp.wa.gov or Detective Bergeron at Judah.Bergeron@wsp.wa.gov.
