‘Chief for a Day’ Chosen by Snoqualmie Police Department: Zach Cezar Named Top Cop

This week the Snoqualmie Police Department selected 7-year-old Zach Cezar as its honorary chief –  thanks to the community’s nominations. Officers will celebrate Zach’s life at Chief for a Day, a statewide event to recognize the lives of children who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening or chronic illness.

This all day event will take place on Thursday, August 18th, at the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission (WSCJTC) in Burien. At the July 11th City Council Meeting, a special ceremony will be held where Mayor Larson will administer the oath of office to swear in Zach as the honorary chief with a certificate and badge.

The Police Department will also present Zach with a hand-tailored uniform, police badge, a gift basket for the family, then transported to the WSCJTC in police cars. These ‘chiefs’ will have lunch with attendees and academy recruiters and participate in an outdoor presentation, which includes SWAT, motorcycle units, Fish and Wildlife, K-9 units, rifle units, and more.

About ‘Chief Zach’

Zach is currently living with optic pathway glioma, a slow-growing tumor that arises in or around the optic nerve. As the tumor progresses, it presses the optic nerve, causing vison to worsen or blindness. Treatment can include surgery, chemotherapy radiation or alternative medicines. Since gliomas often resurface, multiple follow up MRI scan visits are necessary to monitor if it has returned.

Facing expensive medical bills, the Police Department is trying to help the Cezar family by asking the community to raise donation goal of $5,000. Donations can be made until Wednesday, August 10th, at the Police Station, 34825 SE Douglas St. Cash, check or gift cards are accepted. SPD says donations would be greatly appreciated.
