Celebrate Edgar Rice Burroughs’ 150th Birthday at the North Bend Theatre

Join the North Bend Theatre on Monday, September 1, for a special tribute to Edgar Rice Burroughs, the creator of Tarzan, with a free screening of the 1932 classic Tarzan the Ape Man. This is the film that introduced Johnny Weissmuller’s unforgettable jungle yell and brought Burroughs’ wild world to life on the big screen.

September 1 is a big day in the world of Edgar Rice Burroughs. It marks his 150th birthday.  And, after all this time, his fame has not faded and his characters are still as popular as ever.  Tarzan, the grandfather of today’s superheroes, continues his reign as king of the jungle.

To mark this birthday, the Friends of the North Bend Theatre are giving away 100 of the legendary Ballantine books from the 1970s. The covers of these vintage paperbacks feature artwork by comic book Hall of Fame artist Neal Adams and fantasy master Boris Vallejo.  These editions are mini masterpieces of pulp fiction.

Whether you’re a longtime fan or just curious to see where the legend began, we’d love to have you swing by for this nostalgic adventure. Expect romance, action, and a whole lot of jungle charm.  The theater will be serving special “Jungle Juice” mimosas and non-alcoholic beverages for purchase.
