The Snoqualmie Arts Commission is excited to announce the 2024 Plein Air Paint Out event, which will be held on Saturday, July 20, from 9 AM to 2 PM.
This year’s theme, “Bridges of Snoqualmie,” invites artists to capture the picturesque Snoqualmie River Bridge or Meadowbrook Bridge.
The term “en plein air” means “in the open air” in French, referring to the practice of painting outdoors where artists can directly engage with the environment.
This technique, which allows artists to capture the dynamic changes of light and weather, was famously adopted by French Impressionists like Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir.
Both amateur and experienced painters are encouraged to join and embrace this tradition.
Participants can register in advance by contacting Nicole Wiebe at nwiebe@snoqualmiewa.gov, or they can sign up on the day of the event at the Downtown Historic Snoqualmie boardwalk, at the corner of King St. and Railroad Ave., from 9-11 AM.
To compete, artists must have their canvas or watercolor paper stamped during registration. Completed paintings must be submitted by 2 PM at the same location.
Judging will occur, and winners will be announced at 2:25 PM. The first-place winner will receive a $300 gift certificate and have their artwork featured on the 2025 Plein Air Paint Out poster.
Second—and third-place prizes are $200 and $100 gift certificates, respectively. The Community-voted Honorable Mention will also receive a $50 gift certificate.
