Arlington Man Dies Following I-90 Crash Near Preston

A 41-year-old Arlington man died Saturday, April 18th, after losing control of his motorcycle on westbound Interstate 90 near High Point east of Preston, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).

Joseph Barnes was traveling in the center lane of three when he changed lanes, lost control, and left the roadway to the left, striking a recessed storm drain, according to a WSP press memo. His 2023 Harley-Davidson came to rest on the left shoulder and was totaled.

Barnes was transported to Harborview Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. He was wearing a USDOT-compliant helmet. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved, the WSP memo states.

The crash, which occurred at approximately 4:49 p.m. on April 18, blocked the roadway for two and a half hours.
