Jackknifed Semi Closes Snoqualmie Parkway, Snarls I-90/SR 18 Morning Traffic

At 9AM, August 5, 2014, the City of Snoqualmie warned drivers that Snoqualmie Parkway near I-90 would be closed for 2-3 hours to deal with an accident involving a semi and a dump truck.  Luckily, emergency crews had the scene cleared and the road re-opened by 9:45AM, hours earlier than estimated.

Witnesses say a semi truck jackknifed  around 7:45AM and was blocking all four lanes of Snoqualmie Parkway on the downhill approach to I-90. The semi-truck driver was transported to a local hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Snoqualmie Police say the accident is still under investigation, but it appears the semi-truck was turning out of SE 99th Street onto Snoqualmie Parkway and heading southbound toward I-90 when it collided with the dump truck who was also heading downhill on Snoqualmie Parkway in the same direction.

WSDOT said the accident backed up traffic on eastbound SR 18 for five miles up Tiger Mountain. Witnesses say Snoqualmie Police turned traffic around at SE Jacobia Street and Snoqualmie Parkway.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area Tuesday morning and access I-90 via exit 27 or in Preston.  Crews remained on the scene until 12PM working on the investigation and cleaning up a fuel leak from one of the trucks.
