It happens every year. Snoqualmie residents unaware of the Boeing Classic Golf Tournament are surprised by the thunderous, low-level fly over that signals the tournament’s start. So here’s my warning for you all. At 11:20AM today, August 26th, there will be a very large jet, flying very low over Snoqualmie. If you haven’t witnessed it before, I highly recommend it. It’s a sight not see very often unless you live REALLY close to an airport.
This year, the Boeing Classic coincides with today’s FAA certification of Boeing’s new 787 Dreamliner. So instead of the traditional 777 flyover, this year features the new 787 Dreamliner making its Boeing Classic debut. The first 787 will be delivered September 27th – after 3 years of delays. So keep your eyes turned up to the sky for a sneak peek of Boeing’s newest airplane.
The tournament’s opening day is also “Kids Day” at the Boeing Classic. Kids under 14 are admitted free with a paying adult. Fun kids activities happen all day. There is a Kids Zone featuring the latest Xbox 360 video games. On top the 18th green, there is an area where kids can play new Xbox 360 Kinnect games. Kids can also test their golf skills in a Youth Putting Contest, take pictures with local sport team mascots, visit a face painting station and cool off with ice cream from the Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Truck.
The weather is perfect. The views are amazing. The newest Boeing jet is making its tournament debut – and kids are FREE! See more info on Boeing Classic Kids Day. Gates open at 8AM today. The 787 Dreamliner flyover happens at 11:20AM. The first tee off of the 2011 Boeing Classic Round 1 is at 11:30AM. The tournament runs all weekend. See full tournament schedule here.
