Wrong-Way Driver on I90 Leads to Fatality Collision

Last night, January 13th, 2021, at about 9:54 pm, I90 eastbound (MP 38) was closed due to a fatality collision.

A silver Dodge pickup being driven by a 26-year-old from New Braunfels, TX, was going westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-90 when it struck a car traveling eastbound.

A second vehicle swerved in an attempt to avoid the accident and was struck by the wrong-way driver in its second trailer.

The wrong-way driver then swerved back into his original lane of travel and hit a third vehicle head-on.

All drivers were wearing seatbelts, but the wrong-way driver was deceased at the scene. The 59-year-old driver of the third vehicle was transported to Overlake Hospital.

After an investigation, the eastbound lanes of the freeway were reopened at 4:30 am on January 14th. It is unknown at this point if drugs and alcohol were involved.

  • Tragic! While working nights I encountered two wrong way drivers in the WB lanes between Exits 31 and 25 and once between High Point and Issaquah and since I always drive in the for right land was not hit and there was no other traffic.

  • As someone who entered the freeway in North Bend at 9PM that night, it was pitch black and really hard to see anything. Someone not used to the intersection could very easily get it wrong.
