What month is it again? Winter was like spring so now spring feels more like winter?
A strong cold front raced toward the Washington coast Friday afternoon, April 10, 2015, bringing with it predicted heavy rain and blustery conditions – and behind it unseasonably cold spring weather.
That National Weather Service (NWS) said the front would sweep through the Puget Sound region overnight Friday and then drop temperatures in its wake on Saturday afternoon and evening, bringing the possibility of significant snowfall to Snoqualmie and Stevens Passes for the weekend, which is the end of spring break for many.
NWS forecasters issued a Winter Storm Warning and said by Sunday afternoon, Snoqualmie and Stevens Passes could end up with a foot to two feet of new snow.
That storm warning is in effect until 6AM, Sunday, April 12th for elevations above 2500 feet. Stevens Pass is expected to get 1 t0 2 feet of snow and Snoqualmie Pass could see 6 – 12 inches of snow.
In the lowlands, heavier showers (or thunderstorms) on Saturday could contain large amounts of small hail, up to an inch or two according to a special weather statement issued by the National Weather Service. Stormy conditions are expected to improve on Sunday under weak high pressure.
Friday and Saturday night low temperatures in the Snoqualmie Valley should be in the upper 30’s. Heavy overnight showers could also produce wet snow. Daytime weekend temperatures are predicted to be in the upper 40’s to low 50’s and should stay that way through Tuesday.
