Wine Tasting Tour: Fall City, North Bend, Snoqualmie now home to seven family-owned wineries

As the Snoqualmie Valley grows, so it seems does the establishment of local wineries. Over the past few years, Fall City, North Bend and Snoqualmie have become home to seven wineries and tasting rooms, with new wines being created – and some grapes even grown – right on the properties of these Snoqualmie Valley winemakers’ homes.

So if you’re a wine lover and looking for some close-to-home winery options, here’s a little tour. Note: not all tasting rooms are open regular hours until spring, but most do weekend tastings. Check descriptions below and/or reference the websites of the wineries for specifics.

WM Gassie Wine Estates | 35922 SE 46th Street, Fall City

The winemaker is Bill Grassie. His passion for gardening resulted in him planting a vineyard on his new property after moving to the Seattle area in 2006. His first vintage was created in 2011. The winery creates Bordeaux style wines. Winter tastings are done by appointment only, but the Fall City tasting room will have regular hours starting in May. More info at www.wmgrassiewines.com

Fivash Cellars | 4440 Preston Fall City Road SE, Fall City

Located on acreage near Fall City -vabout a mile from the Snoqualmie Falls. The winery’s focus is handcrafted fine wines with grapes sourced primarily from the Walla Walla Valley. The tasting room is open Saturday & Sunday 1 to 6 PM and by appointment. More info at www.fivash-cellars.business.site

Chateau NoElle Vineyards & Winery | 36105 SE 89th PL, Snoqualmie

A small, family-owned and operated winery making handcrafted, Burgundian style wine located near Snoqualmie Ridge and SR 18. The winery is named for the wine makers two children. Tastings are by appointment only. NoElle is a favorite of Bill the wine guy at Total Wine in Bellevue. Tastings are by appointment only. Mt. Si Winery | 8463 Maple Ave SE, Snoqualmie

The grapes are sourced from the Wahluke Slope AVA of the Columbia Valley, and brought to the winemaker’s garage cellar and “tasting room” in Snoqualmie. Every step of the winemaking process is done by hand to produce “ultra-premium, micro-production commercial wines of fewer than 1,200 cases a year.” Open for tastings most Saturdays and Sundays from 2PM – 6PM. Sigillo Cellars | 8086 Railroad Ave SE, Snoqualmie

Probably the most well-known and largest winery in the Snoqualmie Valley. The comfortable tasting room in the heart of downtown Snoqualmie offers tastings everyday except Tuesdays. They serve food and feature live music on weekends. They also now have a tasting room in Leavenworth. The winery’s name – “Sigillo” is the owners’ last name – “Seal” – in Italian. Convergence Zone Cellars | 10808 428th Ave SE, North Bend

Family-owned and operated winery. The grapes for our wines are sourced from vineyards in the Red Mountain, Snipes Mountain, Wahluke Slope, Horse Heaven Hills and Columbia Valley areas. Winemaker, Scott Greenberg creates “small production, premium quality wines.” They’re open for tastings on Saturdays and by appointment. More info at www.czcellars.com

Pearl and Stone Wine Co. | 43015 SE 114th Street, North Bend

Launched in 2013, the winery is a partnership of three longtime Snoqualmie Valley families. They specialized in crafting small batch, red blends with grapes sources from some of the “very best vineyards in Washington.” The tasting room is open Saturday from 12pm – 5pm (until 6PM in spring and summer).  More info at www.pearlandstonewine.com

Cherry Valley Winery | 30932 NE Cherry Valley Rd, Duvall

If you want to venture a littler farther from the upper Valley, here’s another option for you. A small, family owned winery located on the outskirts of Duvall where they focus on quality not quantity. Launched in 2013, their wines are “hand-crafted from vine to bottle, made with fruit sourced from carefully tended vineyards.” The tasting room is open a few days per month.   • The Snoqualmie Valley extends to Duvall. The list is not complete. I encourage you to check the Duvall and Carnation Chambers. Cherry Valley Winery is the first that comes to mind.
