Time now for this week’s look at Mount Si High School winter sports in Living Snoqualmie. A note… and that is all of the events we mention here this week are scheduled weather and road conditions permitting due to our snow that started the week on Monday. Check with the school for the latest information about game status if you plan on attending any of the events.

Boys’ Basketball: The Wildcat defense came to play last Friday and Saturday, and that propelled the Mount Si boys’ hoopsters to their first Kingco title since they last went to state in 2006, and their first ever as a 4A school. The Wildcats soundly beat Redmond last Friday in a well-attended final game ever inside the current Mount Si gymnasium, then took care of Issaquah last Saturday night 71-33 in Bellevue to win that coveted championship and go 15-0 in Kingco 4A play this season – a tremendous accomplishment in its own right. The Wildcats will meet either Skyline or Everett’s Mariner High on Saturday night in the first game of the Wes-King bi-district tournament. The game is a winner-to-state game and takes place at Bothell High School at 6:00 p.m.

Girls’ Basketball: Mount Si got good news this past Saturday in the form of the returns of two top players, junior Sela Heide and freshman Lauren Glazier, from concussion injuries and used their contributions – each had 10 points – to end a six-game losing streak and clinch their first district tournament berth since 2011 in a win over Redmond in the Kingco 4A tournament’s seventh-place game at Lake Washington High School in Kirkland. Junior Joelle Buck scored 17 to lead Mount Si to the 51-28 win, and she’s been doing well the last couple of weeks, averaging 13 points a game over the last five. Buck and the Wildcats face a loser-out first game at the Wes-King bi-district tournament Thursday, playing Inglemoor, who Mount Si fell to at home in Snoqualmie about three weeks ago. The game is at Inglemoor High School in Kenmore and starts at 7:00 p.m.

Wrestling: If Mount Si can make it across the Cascades over to Moses Lake for their state 4A regionals this weekend, they’ll be taking a sizeable delegation to compete for berths at next weekend’s Mat Classic state meet in Tacoma. Tryon Kaess (106 lbs.), Mark Marum (106), Braedon Haynie (126), Brody Belaire (138), Jaeden Durham (145), Luke Harper (152), Spencer Marenco (160), Sage Phelps (170) and Tate Stedman (195) all finished in the top five of their weight classes at this past weekend’s Kingco 4A championship meet at North Creek High School in Bothell, with Kaess and Marum finishing one-two in their division. Mount Si took second as a team and also advanced two alternates – Max Crowder (132) and Antonio Gil (170) – who both finished sixth in their weight brackets. The regionals are Saturday at Big Bend Community College and start at 10 am.

Gymnastics: Behind an all-around championship for senior Shelby Johnson, the Wildcats took their final regular season meet at home this past Thursday, beating Skyline. Johnson and the Mount Si ladies hit the floor on Saturday up at North Creek High School in Bothell at the Wes-King bi-district meet. The top two teams and 10 individual performers will advance to the 4A state meet next weekend in Bellevue. The meet starts at 1:00 p.m. and lasts all day and evening. It is split into two sessions and it is not known which session Mount Si will be competing in.

That is a look at what’s going on this week in Mount Si High School sports, here in Living Snoqualmie!
