Update: Officials Ask for Public’s Help in Search for Missing Plane in Cascades

Here is the latest update in search for the missing plane in Cascades, including photos.  The noise of low-flying aircraft was heard in the Snoqualmie Valley area today, no word yet if it was from search planes.

Search planes are still flying from Tonasket to Sequim, looking for a plane missing since early Monday, July 23. Today, crews are taking a closer look at an area in the Cascade Mountains where weather conditions could have made flying difficult.

Ed Jeffko left Tonasket in his home-built plane early Monday. Family members notified emergency services when the pilot did not arrive as scheduled in Sequim. Aviation crews resumed the search this morning after flying for six hours Monday night.

Washington State Department of Transportation Aviation Emergency Services is coordinating the search. Searchers from WSDOT, the Civil Air Patrol and Washington Air Search and Rescue set up a search base at the Wenatchee Airport. Douglas County emergency officials are supporting aviation crews in Wenatchee. Officials have not located a flight plan or the plane’s emergency beacon.

Anyone who thinks they may have seen the aircraft or Jeffko is asked to contact the search base at Missingaircraft@wsdot.wa.gov or 360-410-7757.
