Two fires in Snoqualmie Park bathrooms determined to be arson; $10,000 reward offered

According to a city news release, on September 14, 2019 small fires were set in the men’s and women’s restrooms at Azalea Park, 6604 Azalea Way SE on Snoqualmie Ridge.

The Snoqualmie Police Department and Fire Department both responded, although the city said there was no threat to public safety.

According to SFD, “On arrival, crews found the interior of the bathroom very soot-filled with what appeared to be the toilet paper roll and dispenser on the floor ignited. The women’s bathroom had burn marks around the toilet paper dispenser as well.”

The King County Sheriff’s Office Fire Investigation Unit determined the cause to be arson, with toilet paper intentionally set on fire. Luckily the fire self-extinguished, but the city said there was significant damage to the building.

Then on September 21st, Snoqualmie Parks Division staff arrived at the Azalea Park restrooms for routine maintenance and found signs of another intentional fire similar the incident on September 14th. The Snoqualmie Police Department did the initial investigation.

The restroom doors at Azalea Park are now currently locked.

Information about these incidents can be reported to 1-800-55-ARSON. A $10,000 award is being offered by the Arson Alarm Foundation.
