Traffic Alert: I-90 gets repaved near North Bend, Lane Closures expected beginning July 5th

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) now has firm dates for a re-paving project that will give a much-needed facelift to a section of I-90 near North Bend.

On Tuesday, July 5th, contractor crews will begin re-paving 1.5 miles of I-90 between SR 202 (exit 31) and the South Fork Snoqualmie River near exit 32. Crews will also replace concrete panels, rumble strips and re-pave two bridges.

Lane closure details

  • A single lane in either direction of I-90 may close around-the-clock, beginning at 8PM on Sundays until 3PM on Fridays.
  • ** Due to the 4th of July holiday, the first closure is scheduled to occur from 3PM July 5th to 5AM July 6th.**
  • Up to two lanes may close nightly from 9PM to 6AM
  • The SR 202 on-ramp to eastbound I-90 and the westbound I-90 exit to SR 202 may close nightly from 8PM to 6AM
  • No lane or ramp closures are allowed on Friday and Saturday nights.
  • WSDOT says I-90 near North Bend was last paved in 1992. With more than 40,000 vehicles using it each day, the pavement has cracks, potholes and ruts – and the right lane is especially worn down because of heavy traffic truck traffic

To repave the highway, the crews from Lakeside Industries, Inc. will grind out the top two inches, repair the roadbed where needed and pave with a new layer of asphalt.

The work is scheduled for completion in early fall. The new pavement is expected to last at least 15 years.
