Three Weeks after Horrific Collision with School Bus, Zach Solomon Leaves ICU; Friends Plan Benefit Fundraisers

Support Zach Solomon page: “Life happens moment by moment. In a single instance, second, thought – life can change. We live like we are invincible, like the world will stop for us.”

On the foggy morning of September 21, 2015, a single moment changed lives forever when Zach Solomon’s vehicle collided head on with a local school bus making morning pickups on Mt Si Road in North Bend.  The exact cause of the horrific accident may never be known.

Zach is a 27-year old Mount Si High School graduate, Sushi chef and father of a young son who turns 4-years old tomorrow. As zachevidenced by the outpouring of support from the Snoqualmie Valley community, Zach is loved by many.

On that chilly, foggy Monday morning, he was extracted from the mangled car and airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.

He still unconscious, but breathing on his own, and listed in serious condition. And yesterday, after three weeks under the care of state’s top trauma unit, along with multiple surgeries to repair many broken bones,  Zach’s family and friends received good news that he had been moved out of the ICU.

Zach still has a long road to recovery, but his family has been with him each step of the way. They report that although he is not in the clear, not almost fully recovered like many in the community believe, the move out of the ICU is a milestone for them and him, showing what a long way he has come since that frightening first day.

Friends and community members have been actively trying to help since shortly after the tragic accident occurred.  A GoFundMe online donation page was set up to help the family deal with mounting medical expenses. It has raised nearly $10,000 to date. A cash donation account has also been set up in Zach mom’s name, Michelle Solomon, at Sno Falls Credit Union.  [Both accounts are still accepting donations.]

Friends also organized a Zach Solomon Live/Silent Auction Benefit scheduled for November 7, 2015.  The event will be held at the Snoqualmie Valley Moose Lodge, 108 Sydney Ave in North Bend, from 6PM – 9PM. Donations for the event are gratefully being accepted. (Details below)

Family members have done their best to continually update friends and the community about Zach’s road to recovery via a Facebook page – and even with all they have been through, a continued theme of each update is gratitude for the love and support they receive from the community.
