Third accident, second car fire makes mess of traffic in North Bend area Tuesday afternoon

UPDATE | JUNE 16TH, 11:30AM

Snoqualmie Police said both lanes of SR 202 were reopened around 11:20PM. WSDOT said one lane of westbound I-90 had also been reopened and they were working to get the other lanes open soon.

ORIGINAL STORY

A third Snoqualmie Valley car accident is making a mess of traffic in downtown North Bend and keeping local firefighters busy.

This latest June 16th incident happened around 9:40AM and involved just one car that caught fire on SR 202 between Snoqualmie and North Bend (popular elk grazing spot). The fire closed both lanes of SR 202 while emergency crews dealt with the scene.

Snoqualmie Police said there were no injuries and by 10:20AM they had one lane reopened near the smoldering accident scene.

Due to the earlier second accident, westbound I-90 was closed at exit 31 for cleanup of the large semi fire that occurred on westbound I-90 near exit 27. Drivers were being detoured off I-90 in North Bend to SR 202 when the third accident occurred.

Luckily westbound I-90 near exit 32 reopened around 8:30AM from the first accident – an early morning, wrong-way collison that also caused a fuel spill.

At 10:20AM WSP Trooper Rick Johnson said one lane of westbound I-90 was being opened to clear out vehicles stuck east of the second accident scene, but said I-90 would remained closed at exit 31 for “awhile longer to clean up and clear the scene.”

The result of all the accidents was very backed up traffic through downtown North Bend and onto westbound I-90.

An alternate route around the 202 fire closure is Boalch Ave to Meadowbrook Way to Railroad Ave to Snoqualmie Parkway to I-90.

At 10:45AM, tow truck was on scene and Snoqualmie PD anticipated 202 to fully reopen soon.
