Snoqualmie River recedes after stage 4 flood event, most upper Valley roads reopened.

UPDATE | OCTOBER 23, 2019, 10:30AM

As most longtime Snoqualmie residents know, Tuesday’s level 4 flood event could’ve been a whole lot worse if the rain hadn’t let up. The October 22nd flood event officially becomes the 14th highest, with the river maxing out at 45,100 c.f.s at Snoqualmie Falls.

Most roads have reopened in the upper Valley. The City of Snoqualmie reported Park St/Boalch Ave SE and SE Northern St between SE Maple St and Harding Place are back open. Mill Pond Road and SE Reinig Rd from the Meadowbrook Bridge at 396th Dr SE are scheduled to reopen at 11AM.

The car in the photo below wasn’t able to make it through flood waters on on Reinig Road yesterday, but luckily the driver was okay.

ORIGINAL STORY

Steady rain pushed the Snoqualmie River higher overnight, October 22, 2019, reaching Flood Phase 4. As of 6:20AM the River near Snoqualmie was at 39,400 c.f.s. This is higher than was predicted yesterday when it was expected the river would only reach level 3 flood phase.

The City of Snoqualmie said Monday afternoon that the downtown core does not experience flooding until the Snoqualmie River goes well over flood phase 4 – generally toward 60,000 c.f.s.

Low-lying roads in Snoqualmie like Millpond Road and Meadowbrook Way, though, typically have water over them during lesser flood events.

Current road closures as of 7AM, October 22nd per SnoPo: all of Mill Pond Road; Reinig Rd from SE Spruce to 396th; Park Street from Meadowbrook Farm to the Snoqualmie/ North Bend city limits. There is also several feet of water reported on Pickering Ct and SE Northern.

The City of North Bend said 92nd Street is closed (just north of North Bend city limits) and a portion of Boalch Avenue is closed due to water over the roadway. The North Bend Park and Ride is also closed due to flooding.

The Snoqualmie Police Department reported via social media early Tuesday morning:

King County expects the Snoqualmie River to crest around 11AM, October 22nd at around 50,000 c.f.s. The National Weather Service said if the Snoqualmie River reaches this level it would make it the 11th highest flow in history. It should fall below flood stage by Wednesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service said major flooding is expected downstream in Fall City, Duvall and Carnation.

Rain is supposed to ease up as the day goes on, with partly to mostly sunny (gasp) skies predicted for Wednesday and Thursday.
