SR 203 closed between Carnation and Duvall this weekend for geotechnical work

WSDOT is warning drivers that SR 203 between Carnation and Duvall will be closed this weekend. A signed detour will be in place from Saturday morning February 29th, to Sunday evening, March 1st.

During the closure, WSDOT geotechnical engineers will drill into the road and install monitoring equipment to determine the cause of a slow-moving landslide causing large cracks in the roadway.

The equipment will monitor how the hillside is moving, the water content of the soil beneath the road and determine the type of material on which the road is built.

WSDOT said the data collected will help to develop the repair plan.

SR 203 Weekend Closure:

  • From 8AM Saturday Feb. 29th, to 6PM Sunday March 1, SR 203 will close between Northeast 124th Street in Duvall and Northeast Carnation Farm Road in Carnation.
  • Local traffic will have access as far north as Northeast 88th Street and as far South as Northeast Stillwater Hill Road.
  • Freight traffic will need to use SR 202.

For the safety of the traveling public, traffic began alternating Tuesday afternoon, February 18th when the southbound lane closed.
