Spoof it and Sleuth it in North Bend

The North Bend Theatre has just announced its monthly film series for 2023.

“Our Finally Film Noir series last year was so fun and such a hit, we decided to double up this year,” states Beth Burrows, owner of the North Bend Theatre.

“Every month, we’re going to bring you not only the greatest detectives but also the worst sci-fi. And to give the sci-fi films a full retro treatment we’re showing them as Saturday late-night movies.”

Both film series will kick off this weekend. First up is Really Bad Sci-Fi on January 28th at 10:00 pm with Plan 9 from Outer Space (1959), the epitome of the “so-bad-it’s-good” cinema. These types of B films from the 1950s and 1960s were serious attempts at science fiction but end up spoofing everything from the plot to special effects.  “They are so much fun to watch,” says Burrows. “We’re picturing a Mystery Science 3000 Theater experience.”

Our second series, Whodunnit Sunday, offers the theatre staff’s personal favorites, from Sherlock Holmes to Nick Charles to Miss Marple. The series will lure all Valley armchair detectives to test their skills against the most famous detectives in film history.

The first film in this year’s line-up is Meet Nero Wolfe (1936) on Sunday, January 29th at 7:00 pm.

Nero Wolfe is a departure from the norm of hard-living, world-weary detectives. Wolfe is a genius at solving crimes, a lover of gourmet food and beer (lots of beer), who does not leave his New York townhouse to solve crimes. His sidekick, Archie Goodwin, handles the outside sleuthing and gathering of clues.
