Snoqualmie Teen Proves Encompass Super Sitters Course Teaches Life Saving Skills; Latest Class Set For This Weekend!

Two summers ago, one of my favorite Snoqualmie 15-years-olds (and my daughter’s good friend) performed the life-saving Heimlich maneuver on a 10-year-old she was watching who was choking on a piece of hard candy.  Liz Larson learned that all-important procedure in her Encompass Super Sitters babysitting and safety course. The response to her mom after the incident?  “Good thing I took the babysitting class at Encompass.”

The chance for local tweens and teens to take course is set for this weekend at the Encompass Main Campus, 1407 Boalch Ave NW in North Bend.  Two weeks later, those babysitters can add to their resumes by returning to take the Teen First Aid and CPR class.

Encompass is hosting these two workshops for teens who are involved with childcare and babysitting, which is a big teen business in Snoqualmie where 35% of the population is under the age of 18.  Super Sitters will be held 10AM to 3PM on Saturday, June 2, 2012.  The class will focus on the following:

• Parent expectations
• Child development
• Personal safety
• Nutrition
• Home security
• Fire prevention
• Telephone tips
• Infant care
• Toys and activities
• Sitter responsibilities
• Basic introduction to the Heimlich maneuver

The Teen First Aid and CPR class will then be offered from 9AM to 3:45PM on Saturday, June 16, 2012.  It will focus on safety and prevention, CPR and choking rescue techniques including the Heimlich maneuver.  Participants will receive a two-year certification card.

Both courses are for kids ages 11 to 15.  Cost for the Super Sitters class is $35 and the Teen First Aid and CPR is $60.  Teens who sign up for both classes receive a $10 discount.  Both classes will be held at the Encompass Main Campus, 1407 Boalch Ave. NW, North Bend.  Please visit the Encompass website for more information on registering.
