Snoqualmie Skatepark opening delayed; November 2nd ribbon cutting event cancelled

UPDATE | OCTOBER 29, 2018

The city cancelled the November 2nd Skatepark Ribbon Cutting event scheduled for November 2., citing construction delays due to poor weather. The skatepark will now open for use later in November.

In place of a ribbon cutting, there will be a grand opening in spring 2019 with demos in the bowl, music, pizza, skateboard prizes, and giveaways. It’s going to be a great event for the community.

ORIGINAL STORY

It took a decade of planning, but after a relatively short construction period – groundbreaking was in June – it looks like the new Snoqualmie Skatepark will open in just a couple of weeks.

The community is invited to join Mayor Larson, Snoqualmie City Council Members, State Senator Mark Mullet and King County Councilmember Kathy Lambert to commemorate the opening of the Snoqualmie Skatepark with a ribbon cutting on Friday, November 2, 2:30PM at Snoqualmie Community Park. The park is located near the basketball court along Ridge Street.

“We want to recognize and thank all of the supporters that made this park possible. This project is a perfect example of the community coming together to provide recreation for local youth,” commented Mayor Larson.

The skatepark was funded by $453,500 from various King County grants, the Washington Recreation Conservation Office, the YMCA and local businesses like Square One Distribution and RH2 Engineering – and other private donations.  The city contributed approximately $10,000 toward the skatepark.

The city is also planning a grand opening celebration for spring 2019 with skatepark demos, music, pizza, prizes, and giveaways.
