Original Story:

According to the Northwest Avalanche Center forecast for the Snoqualmie Pass backcountry areas-

“The widespread natural avalanche cycle we were expecting on Monday and Monday night should run its course before Tuesday begins. That doesn’t mean that you won’t see a natural avalanche or that conditions aren’t dangerous if you head out on Tuesday. If they occur, natural avalanches will be more likely during periods of high precipitation or wind. If you find that the weather fits this description and naturals are occurring all around you, the avalanche hazard may be heightened and you should avoid all avalanche terrain. “

I-90 remains closed between MP 34 near North Bend and MP 106 near Ellensburg due to extreme avalanche danger and continued snow.

36 inches of snow have fallen on the pass area in the last 48 hours, more on the way.

US 12 White Pass and US 2 Stevens Pass are alternate routes. Updates provided as new information is available.

Estimated time to reopen the pass is unknown, crews will reassess conditions and an update will be provided at noon.

WSDOT asks if you can avoid traveling US 2 Stevens Pass, they encourage that. It’s very challenging conditions, vehicles are struggling & they expect increased traffic with SnoqualmiePass closed.

If you can’t avoid, be sure you’re ready for potential delays/closures.
