Mount Si High School Principal, John Belcher, and current Snoqualmie Middle School Principal (and future 9th Grade Campus Principal) Vernie Newell will present information about the future SVSD Freshman Learning Center this Friday, April 13th.
The Snoqualmie Middle School PTSA is sponsoring the event being held at 9AM in the SMS Library. The presentation will be similar to the ones hosted by MSHS and TFMS PTSA’s last month in which Mr. Belcher spoke about plans for the campus’s 2013 opening and “more on the reasoning why we feel the freshmen campus is the answer. ”
The SMS PTSA will be providing snacks and drinks. There is also a short general meeting following the presentation.

Good Afternoon Wildcats & Snoqualmie Valley Stakeholders!
I wanted to thank you for engaging in the topic of the Freshman Learning Center. All voices are critical to getting this right. Trust me, we do want to get this right! I care deeply, passionately for all of my students. I am a strong advocate for college bound kids, ensuring ALL students take on rigor. We wouldn’t dream of doing something that would negatively affect college bound students. We want to ensure that what we do with the FLC will only strengthen and improve what we are currently doing –which has proven to be steady and positive growth and success for our students. Mount Si High School is a great school and we’re working to ensure it only gets better.
I recently had a parent share some of the concerns and the questions being raised in the web, blog, and FaceBook worlds. It sounds as though some of what I have shared so far may have been taken out of context, or misunderstood. From the gist of it, sounds like PE, World Language, Virtual Academy, Team Teaching, STEM, Rigor, remidial studnet needs at expense of advanced student needs, and College Bound requirements are things I can do a better job of communicating about. That said, I would love an opportunity to address these questions publicly, in a format conducive to hearing it from me personally (as it’s too hard in an online format). This Friday, April 13th, at 9am, I’m planning to talk with parents at a PTSA meeting at SMS about the FLC and address their questions. I’m also planning to be available next Tuesday evening, April 17th at 6pm, at the MSHS Career Center, to sit with folks and discuss questions they may have. This will be an informal opportunity for you and I to talk about the opportunities ahead for our students. I’ll do my best to address concerns that have surfaced and to hear to your ideas and priorities (understanding we still have over a year of planning ahead of us.) I hope you’ll join me at either of these times to have your questions addressed.
Know, that all stakeholders can ensure we get it right. With your input, with your interest in making sure this works out, come to the table and share what you suggest is needed to get it right.
