Snoqualmie City News, Calling Artists, Students, Volunteers and Energy Savers!

Lots of important Snoqualmie City announcements  came across the wires last week.  As so many of us have busy schedules, here’s the summary for you.  For those of you with high school seniors next year, pay attention to the arts commission announcement.  These types of volunteer opportunities look great on college applications.  For those of you concerned with the city’s growth, the planning commission is  a great way to contribute.  And all you artists out there, read below for a chance to have your artwork showcased at city hall and the visitor’s information center.

The City of Snoqualmie Planning Commission has one opening for a new commissioner.

The Planning Commission is primarily involved in long-range planning and land use issues, including development of the comprehensive plan and zoning regulations. The commission is currently working with city staff on a major update of the Snoqualmie Comprehensive Plan, which plans for growth, development, and conservation over a 20-year period.

The commission consists of nine members appointed by the mayor for six-year terms. It meets on the first and third Monday of each month at 7PM at City Hall.

To apply, please complete a volunteer application, which is available at City Hall or on the city website at www.ci.snoqualmie.wa.us; click ‘City Government’ and then ‘Commissions & Boards’.

Snoqualmie Arts Commission Seeks Student Liaisons

The Snoqualmie Arts Commission is looking for two students who will be high school seniors during the academic year 2012-2013 to act as student representatives and liaisons for the Snoqualmie Arts Commission. All levels and types of artistic background, experience, and leadership qualities will qualify candidates.

Responsibilities during the term include attending a monthly meeting, scheduled the second Monday of every month from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Snoqualmie City Hall; conveying pertinent Arts Commission information to peers; and reporting on high school artistic events and activities. The students will also be asked to participate in a few citywide arts events held annually.

A Certificate of Participation will be given at the end of term, as well as a letter of recommendation upon successful and satisfactory completion of the term. This can also be added as a civic affiliation on résumés and qualify for volunteer or community service hours.

How to Apply

Those interested may send a letter of application by June 30, 2012 to Nicole Sanders, City of Snoqualmie, PO Box 987, Snoqualmie, WA 98065. Letters may be emailed to nsanders@ci.snoqualmie.wa.us. The letter should include details as to why the student wishes to serve on this commission and past relevant experience. Student representatives will be notified in July if their application is selected.

Call to Snoqualmie Valley Artists: Railroad Art Submissions

The Snoqualmie Arts Commission is looking for railroad-themed artwork in multiple mediums for the July/August art rotation at Snoqualmie City Hall. The art rotation will coincide with the Snoqualmie Railroad Days event and will feature local artists residing in the Snoqualmie Valley.
